Here 2015
Here, is a annual conference hosted by the online creative blog It's Nice that. Here 2015 is basically an insight into the way in which creatives work and how they get there inspiration, with a large spread of designers and artists and only a small number of tickets available It's Nice That decided to add a collection of the talks to their YouTube page, giving many more people a chance to learn from the talks.
Over the last 6 weeks, I have made my way through some if not all of the talks some a lot more relevant than others as they do have many different types of creatives talking. There were a couple which really stood out too me and that I will be selecting on more now.
Annie Atkins is a graphic designer for films, whose biggest project was working with
Wes Anderson on The Grand Budapest Hotel. At Here 2015, she takes you through her experiences working on the film’s graphic elements, from Nazi-inspired business cards to painstakingly designed and written newspapers. Unfortunately, due to copyright issues, parts of Annie's presentation have had to be removed from the final edit of the film. After listening too this talk it made me think about using my own links with the film industry (step dad) to try and gain some experience in this field as it could be something that I may want to do in the future, you never know until you try.
Nathan Cowen and Jacob Klein founded online moodboard "Haw-lin" when they met in 2011 at Berlin-based studio HORT as interns/junior designers. Speaking at Here 2015, they talked through what they do now at their studio Haw-lin-Services in a incurable talk about the creative process and how they bring many outside inspirations into there work as well as other mediums of work such as photography. Almost as much a techno gig as a conference talk, they ended with a brilliant GIF like showreel to a brilliant techno beat, one of the best ways I have seen of showing off lots of work in a small amount of time.
Haw-Lin have easily become one of my favourite studios as of now, their online moodpboard is brilliant for ideas as well as just endless scrolling. I also love how they work with all sorts of fashion brand from Nike to technology giants Apple. It is all very inspiring.
