Creative Industries Podcasts
Filler is a creative industries podcast co-hosted and produced by Harry Hitchens and Matt Shore, both whom are creative themselves helping to develop convocations further.
Every week they sit down with the biggest and brightest creatives over a coffee, and dive into their stories, and draw lessons from their experiences. Whether they're interviewing one of Facebook’s original designers, or a 18-year-old with a feature film in the works, Filler aims to inspire young and inform the experienced through good conversation.
Now in the second series of podcasts they have a great following now with all sorts of people listening and talking about it so that it has created a small community of young creatives trying to break through or who already have broken through.
More recently, Filler did a live event which they invited lots of people, which created a large debate style podcast. Which will be brilliant to listen too!
I have a couple of favourite podcasts from the last two series, Episode 1 - Jack Harris Filmmaker, Episode 6 - Bertie Gilbert Writer/Director, Episode 9 - Rosa Park Editor of Cereal Magazine, Episode 10 - Blaise DiPersia Designer at Facebook and Episode 19 - Conor McDonnell.
A filmmaker that creators his work to countries that he wants to visit, recently he took on a brief from Marriott Hotels to produce three films, so he thought "great" three films three countries. Which I feel is a great way to start too thinking about a brief, he also talks about how brands should be more open to more creative ideas, rather than just sticking a logo on a poster and trying to get people to buy things. So a fit that grabs the audience is brilliant, more people should be creating content as creatively similar to this and things like RedBull and GoPro.
A lot more relevant to graphic design, which is brilliant because I have a big interest in editorial design and they way in which magazines work. Cereal is a beautiful independent publication that is distributed to stockists across the world in three different languages. Its minimalist style and editorial core are critically acclaimed amongst publishers and creatives alike. The podcast, very useful, she touches on points to related to digital vs print and how the compliment each other, its a great insight to how it shoals be seen through the design industry. But she stress that it is so important not to forget about writing and how important it is too a publication, its not all about the visuals the writing helps bring the pages to life which is a very important note to take from that.
