Blep is an independent publishing house run by two graphic designers, we produce editoral work that helps to showcase emerging young creatives. We have both have a good understanding of editoral design and our differences in style helps us to create what we want to do, we both have a passion for photography and which pushes us to work with photographers from all backgrounds as we feel that we best understand how a editoral should be done when you have a certain style of photographic work.
We are aiming to appeal to anyone, but the people who should be most interested in out collective are young creatives who either are looking to get their work published or people who are looking for exciting fresh content that hasn't been spoilt by social media.
We believe by having a good online presence we will be able to achieve our first issue of Blep as we will be able to network with lot of young creators to help get the content for the first issue. using social media like Instagram give people a chance to follow what you do and this means that you can create a good following if people like what we do, which I hope they will as it seems that their is a good gap in the market for this.
Funding for a project like this is key and without having a good budget I don't believe that we will be able to achieve what we set out to do. If we use Kickstarter to help crowd source the first issue we will have a better chance of being able to produce Blep.
Myself and Rob would both work together on the design side of things, making it equal as possible. But when it comes the business side of the collective I think that I would have to take more of the administrative role as it would work better If I did took this role and then Rob would be able to take charge of scouring the content and getting in contact with collaborators etc. But we would share the work load to suit the person making sure that we were both comfortable with our roles and getting the most of of them.
In terms of what people would see we would be mostly based online, all of our promotion and distribution of publications would be done through social media or a basic website. But would also want to take the opportunities to take advantage of spaces so we can hold exhibitions and opening nights (for issue releases) as this would give us a better chance to network with people.
Rob and I are very confident with our collective and we are excited about taking the ideas further and turning them into physical work. The personal benefits of Blep to our practice are very positive, as it will allow us to think creatively outside of university which makes the project more enjoyable with less pressure, we will also be making good contacts which should benefit us both. Overall I am very proud of this idea and I am looking forward to getting Blep underway as soon as possible.
