The Idea
For the self branding module for personal professional practice, I am going to produce a body of work that shows who I am and what I can do best. I will be basing the branding around a short video that is follows the theme "this is my" the idea behind the video is that it will let people get to know who I am and what makes me tick in a short 45 second to a minuet video. The video would be short and snappy (to the point) I would be trying to explain who I am in the best of ways, telling the viewer almost a story of who I am and what I can do etc. A good example of this is below...although these are adverts for the popular TV show Catfish they are a perfect example of how a video like this can be done and what impact it has on an audience.
I also looked at the style of cinema-photography that I would want to use in the video (colours, editing style etc) having a unique style to my video is key as this also helps show who I am to the audience. Too look at how I am edit/colour my video I looked at some examples of how it has already been done and what I could do to make it more my own.
The colours, sounds and the editing style is very similar to the style that I will be doing simple but effective. Although the fast passed cutting of shots is not shown in this video it still communicates a story, and in my video the story is me and who I am as this is what makes the video not just the colour editing and fancy visuals although that is very nice.
Self Branding -
My self branding project will consist of a 1 to 2 minute video that explains who I am and what I do. Along side this I need something that I can send too design studios, that will be visually engaging and grab the attention of a busy possibly well-known studio. The first idea I had for this was to create a bog standard business card, including a QR code that would like the reader to the video online. Are you QR codes a good thing, do people use them? is the question I had to ask myself, they are a very good idea, but difficult to use if you don't have a QR code app. To get around this I thought that a newsletter style, interactive PDF business car, which could be embedded into a email and then sent out to matt studios, it would include basic contact intonation like, social media snd contact into. To make it stand out I would make this interactive business card, show my current style off as much as possible to grab the readers attention. So I had a look for examples of all sorts of self branding, to get more of an idea of how people "sell themselves".
Styles I can relate to me and where I want to go with my design -
Although, some of these styles are from different countries, the way in which the design is set out and and the type setting of the work, resembles how I would like to develop my style. Although this may not happen straight away, but over time I will be able to develop my style and create something that shows who I am and people would be a able to know me for in the future. At this point in my practice, I am still unclear on what area of design that I would like to specialise in, as there are a number of things thats I still want to experiment with too see what I enjoy and am best at. Right now I am most draw towards, how photography can be incorporated into design as well as editorial and slight parts of branding. In the future I feel that I would like too experiment with web-design, but that is for the future.
Studios I'm interested in -
Below are some design studios that I would be interested in working for, as they create work that I would love to get involved with and the style lends itself towards my design for the future.
