Study Task - Getting to Know People //
Today we were presented with a task, this was to find out about different design studios from all over the world, so that we could then start to expand out knowledge on the current design world. There was twelve groups and each group was given one of these design studios to research, when had to go away and then come up with a three minute presentation to do with the company. This had to include, Who they are, Where are they based, What do they do, How do they do it and What makes them unique? So here is what I found out about the 12 studios.
Here is an example of some of the packaging work that I found interesting -
11. Dessein //
The company that we had to research was Dessein an Australia design studio, the main focus of this studio is to produce unique packaging and brand identity for many different sorts of companies from around Australia. Although this isn't the only part of design that they can do, this is what they are best at. They are also very good at incorporating photography into their works, making them stand out from other studios because of the standard. Personally I think there work is good for the purpose that it needs to be used for but as a design student it doesn't influence my work in the way i would like it too. But i do like the way they use photography in their work. Here is an example of some of the packaging work that I found interesting -

01. AHxHA Studio //
A design studio based in Lisbon Portugal that will cater for many design needs from interior design too brand and photography. The studio has a very of the now feel too it, most of their work is keeping in touch with current design traits which is good because they have got themselves a really interesting style. I would be more interested to see work that they haven't done for clients as they say that they produce independent work.02. Hey Studio //
Hey based in Barcelona, Spain is one of my favourite studios so I was very interested to find out more about them. A lot of their work uses bright bold colours with geometric shapes with interesting typography too. Hey specialise brand identity, editorial design and illustration; which my favourite part of design. I enjoy looking through their portfolio of work, because they have done all sorts of work from big to small companies, the online shop is the best part.
03. Sagmeister & Walsh //
Sagmeister & Walsh is are NYC based design firm that creates identities, commercials, websites, apps, films, books and objects for clients, audiences and themselves. This was one of the first design companies that I came across, I wouldn't say that I am influenced by the work they produce but I do appreciate the work they put out and the clients they work with to have such a renowned studio.
04. Hey Days //
Hey Days, this is a Norwegian design agency based in Oslo, they are a studio that is all about visual identity and digital design solutions. they have a very typical Norwegian style, but it is not the same as all the other studios. They have a very small team of 5 meaning the work is always of a similar Hey Days style. I would defiantly want to find more out about their works and what they have don not with clients.
05. Lust //
Lust are design studio from the Netherlands these guys specialise in traditional print making techniques to achieve their very unique style. There work is not something that i would choose to follow but it would be very interesting too see how they create certain parts of their work, using the traditional methods.
06. Studio Dumbar //
This studio is an international agency form the Netherlands, they are a studio that is all about visual branding and online branding. These are both area that I am interested in when it comes to design. They are one of the leading design agencies as of now, so they have some very big clients and it is interesting to see the work produced by them for that.
07. Build //
From London, they are a design studio that is connected with a lot of large brands from Nike to Microsoft, they specialise in doing Art Direction, Brand ID and editorial design. As i have mentioned before I enjoy editorial design, there work is very inspirational so I will be keeping up to date with there projects. Maybe even get some of their priest when the online shop opens.
08. Elmwood //
09. Bleed //
A Norwegian design company specialising in concept development, art direction and brand ID. They have recently work with companies such as IKEA and Diesel on brand identity projects. I really enjoy there style it is very typical of Norwegian design, I will be keeping an eye out for their up coming projects.
10. Face //
Face, a supermodernist design agency from Mexico, they are all about honest branding and making it work for the client. I admire their work and their one personal branding for the company, the website is very good too.
12. Wolf Olins //
Founded back in the 60's by Michael Wolff and Wally Olins. The studio is all about making things that will last, specially when it comes to branding they don't want that brand to die so that is what they believe in. They also did the London 2012 design campaign which just shows how good they are. I do like there work but I feel it is very corporate even though the design is very good.
