Since joining the course last year I have been able to experiment with many mediums both traditional and digital, I was able to use my photography skills to enhance my projects and I was also able to use it as part of some briefs. I have been building on those skills this year both in side the photography studio and out.
With studio based photography I have been able to experiment with small forms of art direction as well as photographing the brief. As part of one of my responsive modules (Monotype - D&AD) I lead the photographing of the final outcomes I found this a very enjoyable yet creative process and it allowed us to give the tone of voice we wanted for our brief. Moving forward from this experience I will be taking the opportunity to do more work of this nature, as I have self incited briefs that I am going to be completing over the summer.
I have also be taking the time to get to grips with 35mm photography, as not not only do I enjoy the process of film photography I feel that it will give me opportunities to create other great work for example I have been in the process of shooting a personal project that i will then be making into some sort of editoral piece. As I feel that these photos tell better stories that digital and no better way to tell a story through a book. Photography also allows me to thin more creatively about spaces as well as generally as well.
As part of studio brief 03 I have started a collective called Blep which is an independent publishing house with the area of trying to showcase young creatives across all spectrums and being involved with as many people helps when you have common interest like photography. So I also see photography as a way of collaborating not just as a personal hobby.
Fashion
I am not be into design clothes, but I am very interested with the various cultures and people that are part of the industry. Whether it is photographing people, art directing shoots, putting together advertising for a fashion brand or creating and editoral it all interests me and I want to be as involved as I can with this side of the industry. As I move forward with my practice over the summer and going into Level 06 I will be making the most of trying to do work that is focused in this direction. One of the first ways is going to be by using Blep to create a zine or similar showcasing fashion in and around Leeds this is something that I feel needs to be done. I also have other projects that i would like to work with, but i have to find the right people to be able to get my plan off to a start. But my idea is so work with local independent brands that could benefit from using design to build a relationship with their customers.
I hope to be be using both areas a lot more moving forward with my practice, I believe that I will be able to achieve this over the summer and I will be make it and integral part of my practice as I'm moving into Level 06.
