During the year we have had talks from a range of industry professionals, one thing that stood out in a lot of the talks were personal goals. It is imporant to have personal asperrations as this will help to push my practice further and get to places that wouldn't have been possible. Rob and I have spoken a lot about what we could do with WYS in the future and have come up with a list of achievable goals that we are able to work towards after leaving LAU.
GOALS - 2018
- HS2 Book - Sam Horton (travelling exhibition) - A project that we will be starting once we all have more time to work on. The idea has the potential to for us to create a travelling exhibition that would be a protest against HS2.
- Alec Aarons photobooks - Alec is one of the artists we have worked with this year as part of WYS and we have been talking about other projects that we can do in the near future. Alec is a very talented photographer and we want to help push his practice along with ours.
- WYS Magazine - Exhibition - Creating an exhibition is something that we both really want to do but haven't been able to give enough time to yet. We want to have introduce WYS to the creative industries by putting on pop-up exhibitions around the country to help spread the word.
- Series of Risograph books - We have recently found a new love (RISO) and are keen to start making as many books as we can use the printing process to help improve our bookmaking skills and show people what we are about.
- Parallel Progression remake - Sam Horton - Earlier in the year I designed a zine for Sam and I would like to revisit this and make it better as it has good potential to be a really interesting project.
- Book Fairs - Attending book fairs is something that we have already started however we want to be attending them more frequently so that we can meet as many people as possible.
Long-term GOALS
- Duke Studios - Through the university there is the opportunity to apply for 6 months free studio space and free business mentoring which starts in July-December. Having a studio space straight out of uni would really help to get us to the next level in our practice so we will be applying as soon as the application forms are out. But we have already been in talks with Sharron at uni who will be helping us to prepare for this process.
- Arts fund grants/crowdfunding - When we have a better idea of how much money we need for a projector for the business we will be applying to various arts funding which will help us to produce the work we want to produce.
- London exhibition - Having an exhibition in London would be great exposure as that is where a lot of the creative industry is and it is a massive goal for us to get our name heard of in London as this might lead to bigger and better opportunities.
- Working with artists worldwide - with the internet now it is very easy to work with people across the world and we know that there are artists out there that would be perfect for WYS and we would love to get out there and work in new places in a completely different environment.
- Studio in London - We don't see ourselves staying in Leeds forever so the ultimate goal would be to have a place to work in London as this would help to open a lot of new doors
- Book Fairs - One better than attending is participating in them a massive goal for both of us is to get a place at Off Print book fair at the Tate in London. Being alongside other artists and creatives that we respect and like would be a dream come true.
- Distribution - Having our book/work stocked by independent bookstores around the world mean that we have got credibility from the industry and would push us to an even higher level if we mange to achieve this.
