Personal & Professional Practice - End of Module Evaluation

Over this year I have learnt a lot about areas of design that I was not so familiar with and it has changed the way I think as a designer and how I want to go forward in my practice. At the end of Level 04 I had used my presentation to identify what I wanted to do over the summer and going into Level 05 but at this point in my practice I don't think I had learnt enough about design to make a good enough decision about what I wanted to do moving onwards from that point. Now I am in the position where I feel a lot more confident about my practice and I have a good understanding of what I am doing as I move into the last year of my design education.

Over the course of the year I have had many influences that have helped me to understand what I want to do to get ready for Level 06. I want to use this summer as the chance to experiment as much as I can with my editorial, photography and fashion based work as I feel that this might make the beginning of Level 06 a lot easier if I have a better idea of what sort of briefs I want to do. As over the course of this year I felt that I could have been doing more of this stuff to get myself established in this area of design so now I am going to have to work twice as hard over the next couple of months to make up for that.

I see the summer as a very good opportunity to get on with a lot of projects that I have been wanting to do over the course of this year. By staying in Leeds over some of the summer months I am hoping that I will be able to use this time to work collaboratively on my collective project (studio brief 03), as this is something that I am keen to get going. As well as other projects that I have lined up I wont be able to start until the summer as they would take up too much time while coming in everyday.

Social media and presenting my work to people is something that I have not really been doing as I haven't felt the need to, but as I have reached the end of this year I have noticed how important this can be so that people start to recognise you and thats how you meet more and more people. By uploading work to Behance this will give me the platform I need to start making these connections with new people. As the summer is the perfect time to network with other young creatives as we all have a lot of time off. Also now that I have made that initial connection with IYA Studio I will try and take this to my advantage for either a studio visit or feedback on work.

I am also taking the chance to go abroad, after going to Berlin earlier this year and getting involved with the design culture there I have seen how interesting and important it can be. So while I am travelling this summer I am going to be trying to do as many things as I can that relate to my practice. Which will include networking with other creatives, well designed spaced, concept stores, galleries as much as I can in the time that I am there. I look forward to getting back in September if I use the summer to my advantage as I will be ready to go.

Overall this year I feel that PPP has helped me to understand where I want my practice to go, I started with a very unclear vision of what I as going to do. Now I am at the end of Level 05 I have a better idea of what I am doing and how I should progress as I have been able to learn a lot from the people around me and the experiences that I have had they ave helped get me to a stage where I am clear about what I am doing with my degree.
